My son kicks his little legs like crazy as soon as I start reading these books to him. While I have plenty of books, these ones have seemed to get him most excited. I also have a lot of fun reading them to him too for various reasons.
1. Twisting and Turning
When I read this book to him, the turning of the animals is unique and fun. He can also help me with it as I take his tiny hands and not just turn the pages, but turn within the pages too. As he gets older, this book will continue to amuse and challenge him as he gets familiar with associations.
2. Indestructible
Babies love putting things in there mouths, my son is no exception. I love the simplicity of this book and that no matter how messy our reading time gets, this book will remain unscathed!
3. Soft and Plushy
Not only are these visually appealing and super lightweight, my son can also turn the pages and their serve as a good toy for him too! It comes in a set of 4 and they are stackable. These were the first books I introduced to him and to my delight, he loves them. Did I mention how easy it is for him to turn the pages?
4. Finger Puppet
We have a lot of fun with this book! Since it’s a finger puppet, as I’m reading to him I can stroke his cheek with the puppet and let him feel the different textures. I also find that it’s dual purpose with playing puppet while also following a story makes it a very sweet and personable experience.
5. Simple Neutral Colors
As soon as I first opened this book, he screamed with enjoyment! I love it’s soft colors. Sometimes when a book is too busy, it can be overwhelming for their brain. Not only that, but too many colors near bedtime is also a tad exhausting. This book is very simple in its neutral colors and is also not gender specific.
6. Pop-Up
Growing up, I loved pop up books myself! I get to move the page slowly to make the characters come to life for him. His eyes began to follow the movement of the little pop ups too which is fun to witness.
7. Touch and Feel
Because, sensory. Babies are finding their fingers, finding their toes and these touch and feel books let babies experience various textures too to make associations.
Knowing the “type” of books I enjoy reading to my son and that he enjoys interacting with really makes things easy for me as I don’t like a ton of clutter and try to limit how many things we keep in our home. When I go to purchase these books, a lot of the guesswork is taken out because I can just keyword search on these types of books. I also think they cover the spectrum with regard to his early developmental milestones.
